La Isla Bonita: exploring La Palma’s natural wonders

‘La Isla Bonita’ (the Pretty Island). The northwesternmost Canary Island is the land of forest, tropical fruit, volcanoes and desertscapes. It’s a treat for trekkers with more than 600 miles of waymarked footpaths. Enjoy the breathtaking view, volcanic cones and rocky barrancos. The bottom half of La Palma is dominated by the volcanic ridge Cumbre Vieja. The largest one is Volcán San Antonio. The crater is a superb stargazing viewpoint.
Explore the Volcán San Antonio Visitor Centre: Just beyond the gate is the start of the path downhill for the hike to the Volcán Teneguía and the lighthouse.

Roque de los Muchachos

Wikipedia: “Roque de los Muchachos is a rocky mound at the highest point on the island of La Palma in the Canary Islands, Spain. The rocks are found at an elevation of 2,423 m above sea level, not far from the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos, where some of the world’s largest telescopes are situated; the altitude and the dryness of the climate here give rise to excellent observing conditions. The rocks are contained with the Parque Nacional de la Caldera de Taburiente.”
